Counselling FAQs

Do I need a referral to make an appointment?
We would ask that all clients would make the initial contact with the centre themselves, and therefore a referral is not strictly necessary to make an appointment. Clients can make an appointment either by calling in to the centre or contacting us on 021 4275678. The appointments secretary will take contact details from the client and try to establish a time that would suit the client. The waiting time for an appointment depends on the client availability.

Who will be my counsellor?
Following your initial contact with the Centre, you will get an appointment to meet with one of our counselling staff. He/she will explain what the process of counselling involves, assess your needs and determine if and how counselling may help. If you have any fears or reservations about beginning counselling, please do not hesitate to inform your counsellor. Counselling typically consists of meeting with your counsellor for about 50 minutes for one or more sessions.

All our staff are employees of our company and have been selected and trained based on their qualifications, experience and accreditations. While all our staff are skilled helpers, there are some occasions where a referral to someone or someplace else might best suit your needs. If this does arise, it will only be facilitated with your permission.

Is this service confidential?
Except in extreme cases of emergency, the centre adheres to a strict policy of strict confidentiality. (Emergency situations include where a client is in serious danger or may be a serious threat to self or others). Counsellors, and the centre, operate under a strict code of ethics and practice, which ensures that our clients are treated always with sensitivity and respect.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?
Appointments are made either through your counsellor or through the centre receptionist. We ask particularly that if you are unable to make a scheduled appointment that you give us at least 3 working days notice. This ensures that your counsellor has time to make arrangements to see other clients. Your counsellor is not available for telephone conversations. The centre receptionist will pass on messages about appointments or other matters.
